Marylin & Lori Vreeke of Pastries By Vreeke enjoying the evening chatting with brides and other wedding vendors.

Pastries By Vreeke, located in Westlake Village, California created this display cake especially for the Nordstrom Wedding Suite event.

Every ten minutes or so, the two sets of models would switch, enabling the brides to see so many pretty dresses!

So many different styles to choose from. They all look so pretty, especially when the models are beautiful!

Even the mother of the brides had fun trying on dresses from the huge selection.

Refreshment galore supplied by Command Performance Catering
The new Wedding Suite in Nordstrom is amazing.  The staff is wonderful, very knowledgeable and makes the wedding dress fitting very enjoyable.  Not only do they offer attire for the entire bridal party and guests, they also offer facials, manicures, and a list of vendors.

The most amazing thing about the Wedding Suite in Nordstrom is the prices of the dresses.  The highest prices we found for wedding gowns were barely $1,000.

I'm going back with a family friend for a fitting.  She found the most beautiful dress when she was there.  Can't wait to see the show!

Many thanks to Command Performance Catering for the wonderful evening of desserts!

Tips when visiting wedding sites in Ventura County:
(courtesy of Here Comes the Guide)
•If you really love the site, ask the venue representative to put together a proposal with all the pricing and policies—including the tax and service charge—so you have an idea of the basic cost.

•Bring a camera with you to every location you visit, and organize the photos by location name when you get home. After seeing a series of places, it’s easy to confuse them. Having a photographic record will help you remember what was special about each site.

•Pay attention to venue as a whole: Check out everything, including the restrooms, the foyer, the dressing rooms, the outdoor lighting and even the kitchen. You want to be sure your vision can be realized at this location. If possible, make arrangements with the site representative to visit the venue when it’s set up for a wedding.

•GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. Your date is not officially reserved until you sign a contract and, in many cases, give a deposit—even if a site contact says you don’t need to worry about it. Once you’ve found THE PLACE, make sure you ask what is required to get your booking locked in and then follow through on satisfying those requirements. And don’t assume that just because the site coordinator said you can have 4 votive candles per table, you’ll get them. Before you sign a contract, read the fine print and make sure it includes everything you and the site contact agreed on. As new things are added or changed in your contract, have the updated version printed out and signed by you and the site representative. Also, document all your conversations in emails and keep your correspondence.

New York In January! Cold Cold Cold

Took a trip to New York city to create a special birthday cake for a special birthday girl!

Happy Birthday to Colette Peters of
Colette's Cakes!

Colette's Birthday cake was created by her assistant Jen, her intern Laila and me Lori Vreeke of Pastries By Vreeke.  Colette's cake was themed after the work of artist Hundertwasser.

Colette's Cakes 681 Washington Blvd. New York, New York

One of many treasures to be found at Colette's Cakes.
This is a mosaic wall Colette made on a wall separating the entry from the kitchen.

It was very cold and snowy in Manhattan, but that didn't stop me from window shopping while visiting the city.  Jen and I had a fun time trying to catch snow flakes on our tongues and going out for Matzo Ball Soup.

TOP 10 CAKES OF 2010

I created some wonderful cakes in 2010 for some wonderful clients. Some were for weddings, some parties and one for TLC's Ultimate Cake Off.

#1

This is definitely one of my all time favorite cakes. This creation was for a wedding for a great couple in the movie industry. They both travel a lot for work, hence the luggage and the sugar film reels represented the movies. All the labels and tags on the luggage were of places they have visited together.

I love getting unique orders like this!

#2

This beautiful cake served 600 guests for a beautiful couple who were married at the beginning of the year at the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel. Everything about this wedding was beautiful from the ballroom itself to the floral centerpieces that adorned each table.

#3

This is one of my favorites because I just loved the colors of the roses. The pastel colors are so soothing to the eye, I could look at this picture forever.

#4

This cake was so fun with the Mardi Gras theme with the deep purple and golds. It's always fun to carve the cakes a bit to achieve the funky look of each tier. Bella Victorian Vineyards is a great backdrop for an outdoor wedding, nestled in the mountains, not far from the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by vineyards.

#5

This softly sponge painted cake in shades of violet was stenciled with beautiful patterns. The monogram was created with sugarpaste and the cake was made even prettier with edible butterflies.
Oh how pretty!

#6

Just a simple cake but oh so elegant. I love changing things up a bit and alternating the tiers between square and round.

#7

This "Monkey Boy" bridal shower cake was created for a couple that I made a wedding cake for. I used their invitations as a guide for the design. I love making custom cake toppers, gotta love the monkey :)

#8

The reason I love this cake so much was that it was created for a groom serving in the US Marines.
God Bless all the military personnel who make our country safe.

#9

This is one of 13 dogs I created for a Bat Mitzvah. Each table had a different breed of dog as the centerpiece. The dogs were auctioned off at the end of the evening to the highest bidder and the money collected went to a charity.

#10

I can't take all the credit for this cake that was created for TLC's Ultimate Cake Off. I was just part of Colette Peter's winning team that created this cake in 9 hours for Griffith Parks 75th Anniversary.
I have never worked so hard in my life, but it payed off in the end.

Thanks Colette for having me as part of your team!

I'd love to know what everyone thinks of my favorite cakes of 2010.
Which one's your favorite?

Happy New Year to all my followers!
